Hello, everyone! I hope you have all been well. Spring is approaching fast and I am very excited about that. I was recently invited to an awesome team on Etsy called the Vintage Etsy Society Street Team (team forum - team blog). I was sent a sampler to try out The Caramel Jar's best seller- their Fleur de Sel caramels. Take a look at the cute unbleached parchment paper wrapping!

Like all of The Caramel Jar caramels, these were created fresh and shipped promptly. Nicole recommends enjoying these within 7 days of receiving them, but I don't think anyone lasts that long. Personally, mine were gone within the same day (...er, half an hour). The organic Madagascar vanilla and Fleur de Sel salt are an extremely tasty combination. I much prefer chewy caramels over those boring hard ones you find at your local grocery store wrapped in gold tin- they are just so much more savory, and these have got to be the most delectable I have tasted.

There is something special about handmade delights, and Nicole has really got her mixture down wonderfully. These are indeed melt-in-your-mouth goodness, not sickly sweet; the brown sugar adds just the right amount of sweetness and flavor. I found myself taking teeny, gooey bites to make sure I savor every last piece. I know I will definitely be wanting to order some more!

CSN Stores [Pet Bed Review]

It is finally time to tell you all about another great product from CSN Stores! (If you missed it, you can find the recent teaser over here to find out more about what CSN Stores is about.) Today, I want to tell you a bit about the fantastic Country Dreams Pet/Dog Bed that Hunter and I reviewed. Hunter is my little dachshund boy and he was very excited to test his new sleeping area out.

The makers of the bed are General Cage. They design other various pet items as well, like crates and grooming supplies. This particular doggy bed comes in three sizes- 15", 22", and 25". We chose the medium one for this long Doxie.

Owning a pup that loves to play, but also tends to be rough with his toys (and past beds) is tough when it comes to finding durable equipment. This bed appeals to me because it is adorable (check out that paw print!) as well as comfortable and lasting. He hasn't even attempted chewing on the mixed wood frame. Underneath the cushion is an intertwined rope material that makes the bed flexible and cozy.

The head-board and foot-board were simple enough to attach and everything stayed together well after the few screws were twisted in. Another thing to love about this Country Dreams bed is the fact that is is slightly raised off of the floor. It keeps Hunter away from the hard tile and the coldness that comes with it.

The fluffy bed cover you see is reversible. Choose either the fleece or the denim and switch whenever you please. I think the fleece is perfect for wintertime and the denim will be nice for warmer months. If you are a dog owner, you know the importance of washable items. The cushion can be easily removed to launder. The icing on top of this fabulous piece is that it is inexpensive. The General Cage Country Dreams Pet Bed is currently only $23.95 (+ $7.95 for a 22" or + $18.95 for the 25"). As with many CSN Store items, they are offering free shipping for this bed! I was contacted by Selina from Cellnique to try out a couple of their face-skin products. The first of which is the Amino Collagen C Intense Set. This is a combination product of two separate liquids, Amino Collagen C Intense I and II. Together, they work on large pores and lines in your skin.

I really like the dropper design. I used this set once a day for two weeks. As advised for sensitive skin, I applied the Intense II first, followed by Intense I. Amino Collagen C Intense II is full of silk proteins and soy, is oil-free but contains Hyaluronate Acid which is a natural moisturizer. It repairs skin cells that have been roughed up and my skin felt smooth and soft right after applying it. Amino Collagen C Intense II was applied afterward. This serum contains a lot of vitamin C which helps to perfect open pores and enhances skin flexibility. I felt a slight tingling sensation using this serum, which is normal for sensitive skin, but it was very bearable and not unpleasant at all. After using the set, my pores seem to have minimized and my skin feels silky, hydrated, as well as more elastic. It also seems to have helped make my skin pigmentation more smooth and reduced some discoloration.

The second product that I am reviewing is the Advanced Bio Renewal Masque. I love the packaging, it is simple and stylish. The masque cream is easy to get to, and the jar allows you to not waste any product. It also smells like a Pina Colada, which I think is lovely. ;)

This masque is made with bio-captured fresh fruit enzymes and acids complex, which makes me feel good about using it. It cleans deep down to my pores while the texture also helps to exfoliate old skin cells. This also strengthens cellular renewal performance. It is a pleasure using this masque, from the nice scent and soft clay-like texture to the way my skin feels afterward- soft, smooth, fresh, and vibrant.

Henny sent in one of her darling slouch bags for review. I love the Ali Foster pattern used for this bag. The red, orange, and cream shades, along with the floral/leaf material, are perfect for autumn.

I also like the nice contrast of the inner material. The slouch shape and generous size make this a great bag for everyday use. There is a magnetic closure on the top as well as two pockets inside the purse. I like to carry quite a bit with me sometimes, but I also like organization, so pockets are always a plus. The quality is what really impressed me. The high-quality cotton is double stitched and durable, with cotton canvas in the middle of the layers. I can tell this bag was made with care and attention to detail. Attractive and functional!

CSN Stores [Toaster Review]

I am very pleased to be sharing a bit about another CSN Stores item with you today. (If you are a new reader you might want to read my two CSN previews [1, 2] and the first review I did for one of their products.) As I have mentioned before, CSN Stores is one site consisting of over 200 different shops making it so fun to browse the huge selection. The holidays are coming up on us and you rely on CSN Stores to be there with great gifting options. You can find something for everyone on your list! I recently experienced one of CSN Stores many kitchen and dining products: a Procter Silex 4-Slice Chrome and Black Toaster. It arrived quickly and packaged safely along with a small usage and care manual. I found the instructions for removing the bottom side (to clean up any crumbs) useful. I like the black and shiny silver color combination. It goes well with many modern day kitchens, especially if you already have chrome and/or black appliances.

If you enjoy toasting up some bagels, along with normal bread slices, the wide slots are suitable for many various sizes. My bagels were toasted swiftly and to a wonderful shade- lightly browned and just the right amount of crispy. Each pair of slots have their own toasting shade-selectors. The availability of four slots is terrific, especially if you have a family, or just like to toast more slices at a time without having to wait. With previous toasters, sometimes I had the problem of slices getting stuck because they do not come up high enough, so the "automatic toast-boost" is a big help with that. As advertised, this Proctor Silex toaster is safe in that it shuts off when it is done and it stays cool to the touch on the outside. When it comes to toasters, this product was just what I look for. The features are all there, it has style, the quality is great, and the price is very affordable!

Sampler Village [review, giveaway]

"Sampler Village" is the home of the awesome Samplicious Sampler Boxes! The wonderful Traci thinks up different themes (the next being Holiday Hoopla!) for the boxes. Sampler "Villagers" are the talented crafters who send Traci samples of their products. She has great taste! Traci then packs up two different sized boxes- the Samplicious Sampler usually contains 15-20 samples from Villagers participating for that particular month's box, and the massive Lavishly Samplicious Sampler includes a sample from nearly every Villager. Something new that is coming to Sampler Village in 2011 is the Yummylicious Treats Sampler Box. It will be all edibles, so you lovers of yummy handcrafted goodies should get excited!

I was sent an Autumn Celebration Sampler Box to tell you all about. It arrives swiftly and nicely wrapped up in a box, smelling pleasant right when I opened it. Another cute thing Sampler Village does is names a "mayor" for each month. According to the card in the box, the mayor for Autumn Celebration was "Beautiful Twists". Take a look at all of the terrific looking samples! These boxes would make such fun gifts. Who wouldn't enjoy going through one, finding items from bath/body products to candles and paper goodies, as well as discovering cool businesses?

My particular sampler contains:

a Cinnamon Vanilla Nutmeg Body Butter Sample from Almonds Grace (it is rich, fluffy, and smells like the season),

CSN Stores [BonJour Review]

I am back with my review of a CSN Stores' product that I wrote a preview about earlier on. The BonJour brand "Prosperity Tea Pot with Shut Off Infuser" was swiftly shipped and arrived at my door step, safely packaged.

Because of the infuser, this tea pot is perfect for someone who loves to make loose tea as well as bagged tea. I love the borosilicate glass, not just because of the terrific heat retention but also because you can judge the color of your tea. If you enjoy blooming teas, you can remove the infuser, plop the bloom in, and thanks to the glass clarity- watch it unfold. Speaking of the infuser, one of its great features is the "shut-off" element. After your water is heated in a kettle or stove-pot, you can pop the lid off, pull up the round ball on top of the pot to have your infuser open to water, scoop your tea into the infuser, pour the hot water in, wait until your tea is brewed, and then pump the round ball back down to shut the infuser off. It causes the tea leaves to be pushed down and not have any more contact with the water. This allows you to have more control over the strength and freshness of your tea. The, just take the handle and pour your tea! I really like that the pot has a black, plastic encasing. The handle didn't get hot, and it was easy to pour with. Sometimes glass tea pots are fragile, but I am not worried about this one because the lid is sturdy just like the built in coaster/bottom. The capacity is 5 cups, which is a nice amount for one tea lover, or a family of them. The medium size and simple but stylish look make this pot fit well in various kitchens. Following the directions that came with this teapot, my tea has been coming out wonderful!

animals that never-were.  Each animal has a story, sort of a

How did Partybots come into existence?
It was a mixture of things.  Started out on one of my design  
portfolios, as a way to see how Paypal would work.  Also got in to  
screen printing, so I posted up two artworks.  They sold, and I put  
the money back in to make more shirts.  Those sold, and repeated.   
Saved and bought a printing press & equipment - taught myself how to  
print and went to town.  For the first 3.5 years I worked a full time  
job and did this on the side.  One of the best things about it, is I  
started it with about $20 - and kept re-investing the profit to grow  
and expand.  Love how hard work and long hours pays off.

When one navigates into your shop, what can they expect to find?
I hope one finds original drawings hand printed.  None of our artwork  
is photoshop or "designed."  I draw for the purpose of drawing - not  
for the idea of printing shirts and selling them.  Often times, people  
say "that would be great on a shirt."  There are a handful of our  
prints that happened like that.  Lately I have been trying to make  
little mini themes for different seasons.  Thats some fashion world  
idea - which helps the stores we work with, but I like the idea of  
being an artist and "doodler" more then a "fashion Designer."

I understand that you create the awesome images found on your  
apparel. Where do you get your inspiration?
Inspiration is everywhere.  I take a lot of photos, see funny things  
all the time.  A friend might say something that makes me laugh and I  
like it.  I just draw mostly what's around me, or things that make me  
smile.  I like having things that border line being weird and strange,  
I like classy aesthetics.  Mixing things up or together is always  
great - like a shark and a jean jacket.  Traveling helps a lot as  
well.  I have more ideas of things I want to draw then time to do so.   
One of my favorite things to do is watching movies or documentaries as  
I'm drawing.  I get a lot of ideas from that as well.

Can you tell us a little about your creative process?
When I taught myself to screen print - that dramatically changed the  
way I draw.  My drawings and illustrations adapted to the process of  
printing.  Trapping color, over exaggerating lines, using cross hatch  
and stippling for value range.  I use to draw with pencil first - then  
go in and ink the drawings.  But now, I just got straight for the ink  
- I like the idea of making mistakes.  Having to figure it out and  
make it work for the drawing.  I start with an idea, then draw the  
outline, then start working in the textures & value range to create  
the composition.  Most of my drawings are one-offs or stand-alone.  I  
always have the idea of drawing more compositions with backgrounds and  
foregrounds - but I think I will reserve those ideas for future books  
I would like to publish.

What is a general day for you like?
Happily, every day has a different structure.  I work 7 days a week,  
that is normal and has been for as long as I can remember.  It's split  
up between working on my online sales, wholesale accounts, book  
keeping, marketing, drawing, art projects, books, and bike riding.  In  
general the first part of my day is all office and business work.   
Then on to creative projects and drawings.  Mostly depends on what's  
in my head when I first wake up.  If there is a great idea for a  
drawing - then I start on that.  I like being flexible and letting my  
mind and imagination dictate what to work on for the day.  Perhaps the  
downside - I get easily distracted at times.

Are you passionate about something outside of Partybots?
Very much so.  I'm in love with riding my bike, and bike community.   
The past couple of years I have been helping with various Alleycats in

year.  I love working on bigger installations and concepts.  At night  
I spend a lot of time putting up artwork around the city.  I have so  
many drawings; pasting them up is a great way to not selfishly keep  
them in my sketch books.  I'm vegan, and love cooking crazy meals and  
baking.

What is next for you?
I just had my first solo exhibition opening here in Berlin.  The show  
is called "Travels" and showcases people that I have seen from my

released in December of 2010 called "Zoo! - Creatures Of Curiosity."   
After that will be a Bike coloring book.  Lots of art projects for  
outside.  Always busy.  Starting to work on an exhibition for Tokyo in  
2011.

How did you get your start in making jewelry?
I've always loved making my own jewelry. I realized one day that i had WAY too many earrings! But I always had great ideas for new earrings and my collection kept growing. So i needed to start selling them. I opened up my shop http://alliteration.etsy.com in August of 2008 and just passed 1100 sales! I realized I wanted to make a new shop for rings. Thus, this new shop, http://alliterations.etsy.com opened this July and we have already passed 100 sales, wahoo!

How would you describe the style of your shop and the items found in it?
Cute! I love love love cute items. Also, unique. I love things that are different from everyone else. I hate it when you buy something at Target and everyone you see is wearing it too! So I try to make cute and different items.

Looking all over the place for cute inspiration and seeing what's already out there. I also get a lot of custom requests from people of certain animals or food or items they like.

Do you have an inspiration?
Anyone who does etsy/another small business as their main job. My goal by May is to be doing my business full time so that when I graduate college, I don't need a real job :)

Can you tell us about a normal day in your life?

Wake up whenever is necessary for school. Somewhere from 7-10 depending on the day. Relist items in the middle of the night if I happen to wake up and have a sale :) or in the morning. College for a couple of hours. Checking email and etsy compulsively throughout the day. A trip to the post office in the afternoon. The post office ladies know me well. It's a pleasant part of my daily routine. Evenings - make dinner with the hub, put together etsy orders/packages, order supplies (i love doing this!), blog, hang out with friends!

Do you have any advice for someone thinking about starting their own crafting business?
Make what you LOVE! Don't try to figure out what you THINK people will like - you'll probably be wrong! Make things you enjoy and think are great. Then, ask other people what they would like. Get people's real opinions and don't assume anything. Get a great group of friends and get their thoughts on products, prices, colors, photos, everything! Really be willing to invest a lot of time and money. I've heard to not expect your business to take off or to get real profit for the first 2 years. I'm just about to hit that 2 year mark so I'm excited :)

Please tell us a little about yourself Sam.
I am 23 years old and currently live in Boca Raton, Florida… not my ideal location I assure you. Growing up I always felt out of place and insecure with myself, not knowing exactly where I fit in. I adore your rabbit items. I actually first found your shop through your Watership Down Framed Quote- that book had a big impact on me. Do you have a favorite book?
I couldn't say whether or not I have an all time favorite book…I spend a lot of my free time reading and have read ooh so many amazing texts that it would be difficult to pick a favorite. However, I will say that ONE of my all time favorite books is "The Fountainhead" by Ayn Rand. It is truly an amazing work of fiction that influences me in my day to day life. I also enjoy anything written by Chuck Palahniuk and George Orwell. And of course I can't leave out my of my guilty reading pleasures, the Harry Potter series (don't laugh!). Reading has always, and will always be a favorite pastime of mine that inspires me in many different areas of my life.

How did you first get your start in crafting jewelry?
From a very young age I enjoyed taking things apart and messing with small objects. Ever since I can remember I have always loved using my hands. When I was young, I would make little animals made out of seed beads and parade them around the neighborhood. Very recently though, about six months ago, I began to delve back into the world of jewelry. I started out just buyings beads and wire and making different odds and ends. Then I came upon some pictures of metal made jewelry in one of my magazines and I thought to myself, "yeah, I can do that," and I did. I was self taught for about two months, just experimenting and such, but once I started taking classes my expertise grew and the pieces I created became more awe inspiring.

What can we expect to find when stepping into Bee Metal Works?
Anything. I am continuously creating new items and testing out new ideas. Some of my pieces are more conservative while others are way out there. I believe that there is something for everyone in my shop. Every item I create is something that I would want to buy. This may of course narrow my potential buyers but I enjoy crafting things that I am interested in, rather than something that doesn't appeal to me.

How do you come up with your unique items? Do you have a specific inspiration?
Sometimes I can sit down and have ideas just fly at me left and right; other times I find myself at a loss for what to make. When I experience these "dry spells," you can usually find me outside, looking to nature to lend me some of her beauty. Which is why you will find that many of my pieces revolve around nature inspired themes.

Tell us about a day in the life of Sam.
I would not hesitate to call myself an over-sleeper. I like to sleep. I like to sleep a lot. So in the morning I will usually have about 50 alarms goings off simultaneously in order to rouse me out of my slumber. From there, most days I will go off to class. Depending on the amount of homework I need to do, when I get home I will work on jewelry. I will also spend time with friends and play with my three sugar gliders, Ickis, Weetsy Bat and Mr. Jefferson, the loves of my life. As I mentioned earlier, I rarely fall asleep before 4am and I will spend this time working on my jewelry while listening to books on tape (I know, I am a dork). Mostly, I just try to get through the day without offending anyone with my sarcastic sense of humor, a difficult feat, i assure you.

What do you like to do for fun, Ashley?

Concerts/shows, hiking, museums, cooking, and traveling.

Do you have a favorite "thing" in the world?
One of my favorite things is my vintage button collection :) Also, my collection of miniatures which includes carved animals and things that have been handmade for me. One more thing, my vintage greeting card collection!

What does your shop, "Ashdel Handmade", consist of?
Jewelry and hair accessories from vintage and recycled textiles: earrings, necklaces, bracelets, bobby pins, hair picks...and more coming soon.

When did you begin creating accessories?
Experimenting with different techniques using textiles developed during college. I did a project where I archived my entire wardrobe (photographed, weighed, and documented all items individually). During that process I became more aware of the time, space, and energy that textiles took up in my life, and the life cycle of clothing. After graduating I began experimenting more with textile jewelry making from recycled fabrics. In elementary school my sister and I made friendship bracelets and lanyard key chains and sold them at summer camp.

Where do you find inspiration?
I find inspiration in nature, vintage things, NYC and wherever I go. The inspiration for my sun kissed collection came from a dress I discovered in a vintage shop here in NYC. As a kid, I would go exploring in my mom’s walk-in closet (she’s still a clothes horse). Also fun was digging through all the odds and end in her sewing box...vintage clothing tags, thread spools, trims, and buttons! I was and still am inspired by colors, patterns, and textures of textiles from all decades.

How does a general day in your life go?
I work pretty long hours during the week at an online education start-up company as a Front-end developer. On the weekends I focus on creating new pieces, photographing, and posting new items. Occasionally on the weekends you can find me selling at the Hester Street Fair alongside my friend Abby (bambako.etsy.com).

Hello, everyone! You might remember when I introduced you to "Thy Local Organic Pagan" earlier this year. Tabitha has recently sent in some of her new products, for a review. The package arrived smelling just as fantastic as last time. A pleasant, calming, earthy scent. Everything was packaged attractively and safely. What I love about Thy Local Organic Pagan is that Tabitha always sticks to Organic and Garden Grown herbs and spices, which she uses in her products. Everything is Earth friendly, friendly for you, and always smells great!

These three are Shea Butter Moisturizing Body Wash, Shea Butter Bath Milk, and Shea Butter Foot Lotion. Shea Butter is terrific for dry skin, so these three work together very nicely to moisturize your body. The body wash had a nice slight lather when I used it with my bath pouf. I felt clean without feeling that dryness you sometimes get when your cleanser is harsh. The bath milk is great for a soothing soak in the tub. I mixed it in with the running water and let it work its magic. This product is so wonderful for moisturizing your whole body while you relax. Most of you probably agree that feet could always use some extra pampering. The foot lotion is light, feels refreshing, and softens the skin. I think it is good to use after showering/bathing, before you get into bed. Each of these products has a delicate and natural scent of Shea Butter.

Next, we have Patchouli and Wild Cherry Sea Salt Scrub. I love how fine this scrub is! It feels very luxurious and has a perfect scent concoction of sweet and foresty. Any of my old skin came right off to reveal a silky smooth layer. This is especially nice to use on areas that are usually the driest, like elbows and knees. Unlike many scrubs I have used in the past that just exfoliate, I also noticed the moisturizing happen with this scrub right away. That must be Tabitha's terrific use of a olive oil and soybean oil blend.

I wanted to show you how adorable the packaging was on this Patchouli and Wild Cherry Soap sample- like a little wrapped up piece of candy. Inside, the actual soap was partially light brown, deep brown, and had a ridged texture (like the soaps you can see here.) This handmade soap lathered up beautifully and the scent was just super. Like the scrub, Patchouli and Wild Cherry, it smelled quite woodsy with a hint of sweetness. Many soaps dry my skin out while they clean but this one did the opposite. I felt clean without feeling like I lost all of my natural, healthy oils.
